Wheels on the Bus
Your contributions will help meet the costs of providing shelter, meals, counseling, basic needs and other associated expenses for parents and children in the Family Promise program.  The cost of providing these critical services for a family has been calculated by HUD and the Board of Social Services to be $52.00 per day in Monmouth County. You can adopt a family for a day, a week, a month or their average length of stay (76 days)
Contribute to support of the Family Promise Day Center, located in Keansburg NJ, which provides daytime living accommodations for homeless families while they are in the program.  The Day Center is where families come to shower, work on the computer posting resumes and seeking apartments, spend quality time with their children, store their belongings and have a safe harbor during difficult times.  The Family Promise staff is located in the Day Center, and is available to provide caring encouragement, case management, life skills training and other important services focused on ending homelessness and moving families to permanent housing.  This is the hub of the program, and a critical part of what we do.

Help assure continuation of our transportation program, which sets Family Promise apart from most other programs in the county.  Our transportation gets parents to work, enabling families to achieve independence and permanent housing more quickly.  Our transportation allows children to enroll in school, usually the school they last attended where they know friends and teachers. These familiar surroundings ease the emotional impact of homelessness, providing comfort and stability during tough times.  We drive families to doctor visits, apartment viewings, job interviews and other important appointments all focused on improving the quality of their lives, shortening the length of time in the program and finding permanent housing with few obstacles.  Rising fuel prices, insurance premiums and other cost factors are making it difficult to meet expenses, but we do NOT want to give up this vital benefit.

Special Projects

  • Movin’ Out:   Special Collection of $3,000 to help families pay a security deposit and first month’s rent, enabling a family to move out of the program when they are ready.
  • Gift Card Collections:   Collect gift cards from gas stations, food stores, Walmart, Target, Kmart and other local stores to defray the cost of family expenses. These cards are donated to families who are moving as well as used by the center when needed. 
  • Housewarming baskets: A gift for those who have moved into their own apartments, or welcome bags to those coming into the network filled with hygiene and toiletry items.
